Potatoes in Practice

Potatoes in Practice (PiP) is Scotland’s largest field-based potato event and is hosted by The James Hutton Institute, in partnership with SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College) and Agrii.
Potatoes in Practice is hosted by the Hutton through the National Potato Innovation Centre (NPIC), where we work in partnership with stakeholders, academic, industry and government in the UK and beyond to carry out scientific research to future proof the potato industry and support economic resilience and growth. We do this through innovation, generating new findings and innovating products. We are currently planning a state-of-the-art innovation centre to support the work of NPIC.
The event brings together variety demonstrations, research and trade exhibits in one place making it an essential date in the potato industry calendar.
In the field, you’ll find commercial breeders showcasing the latest varieties, agronomists demonstrating what’s new in crop protection and researchers discussing their most recent findings, all on hand to share their knowledge and give advice. And of course, no field event would be complete without machinery – both moving and static.
Potatoes in Practice is an annual initiative aimed at fostering learning and agricultural innovation.
Our mission is to facilitate the adoption of practices that enhance sustainability and resilience in farming.
